Physical Education

Hello everyone! I’m Mr. Joe, and I’m thrilled to be teaching Physical Education at Discovery Charter School. This is my second year teaching at Discovery and my goal is to explore a variety of movements, skills and games in this class that all conform to the MN state K-8 standards. Each grade level enjoy activities that are appropriate for their skill and fitness level while still challenging them to improve and help learn the fun of physical activity within their daily life!

Fall Trimester

During this unit, the students will be practicing some of the basic skills needed to play soccer (dribbling, passing, trapping, and shooting) in drills, lead-up activities and games. The students will demonstrate teamwork and sportsmanship skills as well as cardio-respiratory endurance, foot-eye coordination, agility, and spatial awareness. Some of the basic offensive and defensive strategies to the game will also be demonstrated.

During the football unit, students will learn how to throw and catch the football along with learning its rules. Students will also work on teamwork and sportsmanship and be active while both running and sprinting and working on their hand eye coordination.

While participating in the basketball unit, the students will use basic basketball skills (dribbling, passing, shooting, rebounding) in drills, lead-up activities and games.
